Starting Point: Entrance to Joan Meadow Wood (SD6164179), Near Heapey Waterman's Cottage
A lovely walk through woods and meadows, along embankments and a couple of lanes. A delightful walk especially on a sunny autumn day, when the colours are magnificent

Leaving the car, enter Joan Meadow Wood and follow the path which climbs slightly. After less than half a mile you leave the wood and enter open pasture with an excellent view down the reservoir. Soon you enter Spen Wood and when you see the embankment of High Bullough the path splits. Take the path to the left (the embankment to your right)

The path begins to climb and at the end of the embankment turn right and cross a bridge. This path goes alongside High Bullough Reservoir and it is a delightful path too. The reservoir is only small and as you reach the end you can turn left and try and find the site of Jacob's Ladder Our path continues ahead and downwards, back to Anglezarke Reservoir. As you reach a tarmac track turn left and follow the track all the way o the car park at Lister Mill Quarry.

As you leave the car park, go straight ahead keeping the water to your right and soon you will arrive at road junction with a grass triangle in the middle. Many will remember that Anna Massa used to park her ice cream van on the triangle. Turn right and cross the outflow from Yarrow Reservoir, whose embankment can be seen high to the left. Walking along Knowsley Lane know, you soon reach another bridge. This crosses the large overflow from Yarrow.

The lane turns sharp right and crosses the Knowsley embankment. At the end of the embankment, just after crossing the huge overflow from Anglezarke into Upper Rivington Reservoir, take the public footpath on the right. Now is a pleasant walk through fields following the reservoir. Follow the path which will turn sharp left and you will see gate posts on your left (this was a farm called Haddock Fold) and he start of an embankment wall on your right. Keep following the path and after crossing a stile turn right and up to the embankment wall, Turn left at the top and follow the wall. Great views from here to Winter Hill and Rivington Pike and also across to Lister Mill quarry and Healey Nab.

After walking half a mile, and keeping the lane down below you to the left the embankment will turn right to Kay's Farm. At the corner, descend and go over the wall, turn right and follow the lane, till you reach a track to a farm on the right. Turn right up the track and then turn left before the farmhouses. This takes you on to a track that is named Heapey Fold Lane, a dirt track with good views which takes you to Healey Nab. As the Nab comes into view watch out for a gate and a path to the right (SD611174). This takes you into the delightful Grey Heights Wood, of which some of it was lost when the reservoir was filled. A word of caution - it can get a little muddy underfoot, but it appears to be better than it used to be.

The path slowly descends towards the reservoir and you simply follow the path till you reach the end of the reservoir at the Heapey embankment. Turn right, cross the embankment, pass Waterman's Cottage and return to your car! A great walk.
